Lisa Maffia (2003)

For better or for worse, hip-hop is here to stay, at least in my car while my wife is driving. The good news for me is that hip-hop is assimilating the mainstream as quickly as the mainstream is assimilating hip-hop.

Lisa Maffia's music is interesting for all the performances except her own. I'm far more taken by the backing vocals and the blend of chords and rhythms than by Lisa's melody and vocals. The only excuse I would find for such a situation would be that she was the writer, and indeed she gets writing credit for most of the songs on the album.
