Eminem (2002)

Well, here I find myself reviewing an album I never thought I would have listened to. Images of Eminem with the doll taped to his outfit put me off early (as I'm sure they were meant to), and the few times I listened to any selections (thanks to Steph and Lee!) I was further put off by the man's ego.

But Joey has been after me for more than a year to pick up this CD (his friends evidently all have it), and I finally caved in and ordered the cleaned-up edition. (Note to parents: They just scratch over the bad words and everybody can tell what's being left out. Mostly.)

So now I have to listen to this in the car. And I went to the trouble of actually listening to the words. (Listening to rap for the melody is like watching Baywatch for the dialog.) And I found time and again that Eminem had something interesting to say, and that he had a clever, often original way of expressing it. Even on the songs where I don't agree with what he's saying (and there are a few), I've come to enjoy his method of expression (despite Steph and Lee's best efforts!).

I've just ordered the 'full nasty' version for myself. Now if only there were a few songs on the CD that weren't about himself!

Listened on:

1 December 2003 - 2 December 2003
30 June 2003
