David Mitchell (2001)

An amazing work which takes us, chapter-by-chapter, character-by-character and city-by-city from Japan to Ireland, and then runs over the whole route again in the course of a single chapter and character before making the leap to the New World.

The collection of disjointed stories is woven together by threads linking each chapter just finished with the next.

Undoubtedly one of the best first novels I've ever read. I'm looking forward to more of Mitchell's work.
